If a romantic getaway is part of your Maui plans, you may be wondering what to add to your itinerary. Of course, Maui is popular for both weddings and honeymoons. But if that doesn’t apply to you, there’s no reason why you and your significant other can’t enjoy some romantic activity on The Valley Isle.
We’ll be the first to admit that the beautiful beaches with multicolored sands, tropical flowers, and comfortably warm breezes are just what you need for a romantic getaway. There’s always something to do no matter what your tastes. But if sitting on the beach all day isn’t what you have in mind, we’ve got plenty of couples’ activities that take you around Maui to create wonderful memories.
Sunrise and Sunset
It’s one of the most incredible sights in the world—a sunrise or a sunset on Maui. At Haleakalā National Park in Maui, you can experience one of the world’s most coveted views. But you’ll need to make your reservations at least 60 days in advance and get up very early just to get there. Pack a light jacket for the early morning chill, food, water, and other provisions for your trip. Sunrise here is quite popular, and people drive from all over Maui to see one.
If you’d rather see the sunset instead, you do not need reservations. However, they are equally stunning and require a little pre-planning and packing.
Couples Massages
Sure, you can get a couples massage wherever you live. But there’s something special about getting a massage here in Maui. And let’s face it—if you’re hiking, diving, surfing, swimming, fishing, ziplining, or engaging in other strenuous physical activities, a massage might be just the thing to get you feeling better and back to your romantic self. With several local spas in Maui, you can book your couple’s massage in advance. Book for your last day in Maui and go home relaxed and looking like you’ve really had a vacation.
Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm
You probably wouldn’t think of this one if we didn’t tell you about it. Lavender is used in many food and health and beauty products and is well-known for aiding relaxation and sleeping.
The Ali’I Kula Lavender Farm is far from the beach. It’s situated in the Upcountry, in the central part of Maui, where the drier mountain air makes lavender an ideal crop for the area, along with other native flora. Take a self-guided tour through the lavender fields and enjoy the clean mountain air along with the incredible scent of fresh lavender. You can also shop in the gift shop for locally made products with this same lavender to take home and remember your trip.
The farm is only open Friday through Monday, 10 am to 4 pm local time. General admission is $3 per person, with a $1 off for seniors, military, and Kama’aina (local residents.) Admission is waived with one non-perishable food donation per person to the Maui Food Bank.
Visit A Luau
We’ve mentioned luaus before, but it bears repeating, especially for a romantic getaway. Luaus are a unique cultural activity that offers some of Maui’s best. It’s more than just a feast—it’s also a total presentation of true Hawaiian culture.
One of the best for couples is the Feast at Lele which takes place on the beach in Lahaina. “Lele” is the ancient name for Lahaina, and the luau takes place on the same beach where Maui’s Royal Family once held their own festivities. It’s a celebration of Polynesian cuisine that’s best enjoyed at sunset. The luau includes a 5-course Pacific feast, delicious cocktails, music, and an authentic hula performance in an intimate setting.

• Take a candlelight tour of the Baldwin Home Museum from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Fridays
